Monday Motivator: Meeting New People

Are you interested in establishing healthy friendships, but don't know where to begin?  I find many women struggling to meet new girlfriends feel stuck in one of two situations.  They either live in a large city that makes meeting new people intimidating or they live in a small town atmosphere where the community is "clickish" and not very welcoming of new friends.

Either way, I have found a fail proof formula for finding and socializing with new people.  Make a list of interests, hobbies, and activities you enjoy.  It can be as simple as reading or as adventurous as skiing. Now go to google and type in your interests with your city.  You should be able to find clubs, organizations, classes, etc. related to your interests.  Most often the people who join these activities participate in hopes of meeting people with shared interests.  So you will already have something in common and will hopefully be meeting people excited to meet you.  Easy!

As you begin searching for your hobbies and interests, keep an open mind.  You don't have to be an expert in any particular area to join a group.  In fact you may find a class related to something you know nothing about, but have always been curious to learn.

Most people feel a little nervous when starting something new. It is a normal feeling to have and everyone of the women in the group has been there and can relate.  Remind yourself it is normal, but the benefits of pushing through the nerves and meeting new friends far outweighs the costs of loneliness!

Tip:  City Recreation websites are a great place to find unique and affordable activities.
