In 1980, the computers of the Strategic Air Command in Nebraska indicated that the US was under attack of missles launched by submarine. Within minutes, more than 100 B-52 bombers loaded with nuclear bombs were on their way to the Soviet Union. Fortunately, it was quickly discovered that the computer made a mistake. The culprit was a comuter chip, which cost 46 cents.
